13th European Corporate Governance Conference to address relevant aspects of corporate governance

The 13th European Corporate Governance Conference is to be held in Vilnius on 8-9 October to discuss the actual problems of corporate governance. The Conference is held under the auspices of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). The Conference is organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania.

‘The Conference will focus on shareholders' rights and benefits conferred by the company's management. Both listed companies and unlisted companies, and state-owned enterprises should focus on the efficient management to be competitive in the market’, – said Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania Evaldas Gustas.

Responsible investment towards long-term engagement, realities of institutional shareholder behaviour, corporate governance in unlisted companies and other challenges in the corporate governance sector in the EU will be discussed in the conference.

Focus on shareholder value creation in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will be among the topics of the Conference. During the informal meeting of ministers of the EU Competitiveness Council in Vilnius on 22–23 July, the EU Internal Market and Industry ministers stressed the importance of SOEs for the Member States’ economy and competitiveness. The Ministers encouraged the Member States to share the recently gained experience in the field of SOE to enhance the performance of SOEs.

Representatives from the European Commission, European Corporate Governance Institute, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, European Confederation of Directors Associations, Stock Exchange Market (NASDAQ OMX), Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance and other competitive institutions or companies are invited as speakers of the Conference.
