Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrė Armonaitė, who is visiting Italy, met with Adolfo Urso, Minister of Italian Enterprises and Made in Italy, to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the life sciences and other sectors, as well as the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Last year, the bilateral trade turnover between Lithuania and Italy reached EUR 2.8 billion, and Italian direct investments in Lithuania amounted to around EUR 47 million - we see a great potential for growth. Of particular importance are the high value-added sectors such as life sciences, engineering and defence, financial and space technologies, and renewable energy," said Minister of the Economy and Innovation A. Armonaitė.

The meeting with the Italian Minister also covered possible reconstruction projects in Ukraine and European Union policy issues.

The Minister also met with executives of the Italian industrial giant Leonardo S.p.A.. The company is active in the fields of aviation, defence and security. Representatives of the company are scheduled to attend the Baltic Miltech Summit in Vilnius on 25-26 April.

The international conference in Vilnius will bring together defence industry companies, policy makers, research centres and innovators from Lithuania, the Baltic region and other NATO and European Union countries.

A Lithuanian business delegation led by Ms Armonaitė, comprising around two dozen representatives of Lithuanian companies, associations and research centres, will visit Italy from 7-9 March.
