In order to strengthen the representation of Lithuania's economic interests in the strategically important market of the United States of America, the network of our country's commercial attachés in the country is being expanded. Sergejus Tikhomirovas takes up the post of Commercial Attaché at the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Chicago.

S. Tikhomirovas became the third Lithuania’s Commercial Attaché to the USA. He is currently Commercial Attaché in Los Angeles and New York.

“The United States of America is a strategic partner of Lithuania, and we would like to see even more trade and investment between the two countries. Lithuania has a great potential to do business with the USA in biotechnology, software, lasers, medical device manufacturing and other areas, we have many young, entrepreneurial, growing companies and start-ups in Lithuania that are capable of attracting investment, and the new commercial attachés will help us to achieve the desired results," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.

S. Tikhomirovas successfully served as Lithuania's Commercial Attaché in Ukraine for four years, having worked in the private sector and in the civil service before that. Sergejus Tichomirovas holds a Master’s degree from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University, and has completed internships at Aarhus University in Denmark and the ’exchange programme of the U.S. Department of State.

“The US market is one of the most interesting and has the highest growth potential. I will use all my knowledge and skills to help our exporters to enter and expand their operations in the USA and to attract new investors from this country,” said Sergejus Tikhomirovas.

The USA is a priority market for Lithuania's biotechnology, pharmaceutical and laser sectors, and the aim is to deepen ties with US science and research institutions. Lithuania would like to increase its food exports to the USA, but this requires obtaining special certificates.

Bilateral trade between the USA and Lithuania reached €3.1 billion last year, making the USA the country’s 6th largest trading partner. Direct US investment in Lithuania amounts to €604 million, making it the 12th largest investor in Lithuania.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation is currently conducting selection and recruitment procedures for the position of Commercial Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania in Japan, Germany and Poland. The new attachés will strengthen Lithuania’s economic representation globally and in the strategically important markets of the USA and Germany, with 3 commercial attachés each.

Lithuania currently has Commercial Attachés in the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, Ukraine and South Korea. By 2024, the number of Commercial Attachés will be increased to 23.
