Minister of Economy to discuss Presidency of the Council of the EU priorities with EP Committee

On 29 April, Minister of Economy Birutė Vėsaitė will meet with the members of the European Parliament Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) who are coming to Lithuania.

The purpose of the European Parliament Committee delegation’s visit to Lithuania is to exchange views on the agenda items and priorities of the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union – these issues will be discussed during the meeting of the Minister Vėsaitė and the IMCO delegation. During the Presidency Lithuania will address single market policy and other related issues relevant EU-wide. 

The European Parliament’s IMCO Committee delegation will also meet with President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, the Minister of Justice and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, members of the Seimas Committee on Economics, Committee on European Affairs and Committee on Legal Affairs. The IMCO delegation in Lithuania will be led by the EP IMCO Committee Chairman Malcolm Harbour.

The EP IMCO Committee is responsible for competition policy and consumer welfare issues. The Committee seeks to establish clear rules for businesses and to simplify the rules to be obeyed by small firms as well as to make sure that people who want to work, study or start business could settle in any place they want in the EU.
