European tourism forum and informal. Ministerial meeting on tourism

The 12th European Tourism Forum took place on October 17-18th, 2013 in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

The Forum was a strong platform to exchange best practices and experiences, to discuss challenges and opportunities, future perspectives and changes in the tourism sector; it was also an excellent opportunity to explore new ways to actively penetrate into and attract more tourists from the new emerging markets and discuss about actions to promote Europe as a number one tourist destination in the world.

The topic of the Forum ‘Tourism – A Force for Economic Growth, Social Change and Welfare’ allowed to take stock of the implementation of the European Commission’s Communication ‘Europe, the world’s No 1 tourist destination – a new political framework for tourism in Europe’, to discuss about the impact of tourism on the EU economy and about international tourism development trends, to look more closely at tourism support possibilities under the new financial period 2014-2020, and to debate about one of the priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council – the Baltic Sea Region Strategy.

The following topics of great importance for the competitiveness of our tourism industry were discussed during the Informal Ministerial Meeting: 1) visa policy 2) senior tourism initiatives 3) tourism related funding under the Multi-Annual Financial Framework 2014–2020.
