Arūnas Šarka Continues as Lithuania's Commercial Attaché in Germany
Arūnas Šarka, who won the competitive selection process, will continue to serve as Lithuania’s commercial attaché in Berlin, Germany. Mr. Šarka has held this position since 2022, and this will be his second term.
“Germany is the largest foreign investor in Lithuania and one of our most important trading partners, so strong economic representation in this country is particularly important. Arūnas Šarka is well acquainted with the business environments of both countries, has accumulated valuable experience, and maintains a broad network of contacts. By continuing his work, he will help Lithuanian companies discover new opportunities in Germany, attract investment, and strengthen economic ties between the two countries,” says Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of Economy and Innovation.
A. Šarka is a professional in the fields of economic diplomacy and international law, with more than 30 years of work experience in the legal, business, and public sectors in Lithuania and Germany. For more than 25 years, he has worked within the German legal, economic, and business environment.
“The German market offers many opportunities for Lithuanian companies, but to take advantage of them, it is essential to have a good understanding of the local business environment and to build long-term relationships. As I continue my work, I will focus primarily on providing concrete support to Lithuanian businesses – finding new partners, expanding exports, attracting investment, and strengthening technological cooperation. The goal is for Lithuanian companies in Germany to be even more visible and recognized as reliable and innovative partners,” says A. Šarka.
Before taking up the position of commercial attaché, A. Šarka worked as an attorney and senior partner at a law firm for more than two decades. He provided legal services to business clients in Lithuania and Germany and advised German investors in Lithuania. A. Šarka also served as vice president of the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Crafts and was a long-standing member of its board. He has served as a legal advisor to the German Embassy in Lithuania and has held positions on the governing bodies of the Lithuanian-German and German-Baltic Chambers of Commerce.
A. Šarka earned his law degree from Vilnius University and furthered his legal education in Germany and Hungary.
Germany is one of Lithuania’s most important economic partners. In 2025, bilateral trade volume reached 8.9 billion euros, with Lithuanian exports of goods to Germany totaling 3.3 billion euros and exports of services amounting to 3.7 billion euros. At the end of 2025, Germany’s accumulated direct investments in Lithuania totaled 5.9 billion euros.
