EIMIN: Commercial Attaché to be established in Munich
The Government has approved a proposal by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation to establish a new post of Commercial Attaché in Munich, Germany.
"We want to make even better use of our existing resources and improve support for Lithuanian businesses in Germany. It is crucial to have Lithuanian economic diplomacy capabilities in the most relevant, strategic and geopolitically important markets for business, and Germany is just such a market - last year, Germany ranked first in terms of imports and third in terms of exports among Lithuania's foreign trade partners," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.
The new post of Commercial Attaché in Munich follows the transfer of a Commercial Attaché from Berlin, leaving 2 instead of 3.
"The diversification of Commercial Attaché posts will help us to focus more on the Free State of Bavaria, which will undoubtedly boost the export of Lithuanian goods and services, attract foreign direct investment and promote technological cooperation between the countries. In order to contribute to the strengthening of cooperation between the countries, issues of interest to Lithuanian business and enterprises will also be addressed," said Karolis Žemaitis, Deputy Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The priorities of the Lithuanian commercial attaché in Munich are to focus on Lithuania's economic diplomacy in the southern and western states of Germany and to cooperate with the Lithuanian diaspora.
In 2023, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to EUR 9.24 billion, with Lithuanian exports to Germany amounting to EUR 3.06 billion and imports from Germany to EUR 6.17 billion.
Lithuania is successfully strengthening its relations with its partners abroad by expanding its network of Commercial Attachés and Trade Representatives, which now comprises a team of 22 people. New commercial attaché posts have been created in Singapore, Denmark, France and Italy as of 2023.
The Commercial Attaché network is currently active in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United States of America, Italy and Lithuania has a Commercial Representative in Taipei.
