EIMIN: Lithuanian students and graduates are invited to participate in an internship at the European Space Agency

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation announces a call for Lithuanian students and graduates to participate in a paid one-year internship at the European Space Agency (ESA).

“Space activities have a high innovative potential and cover virtually all scientific fields and technologies, and we want to accelerate the development of Lithuania’s space ecosystem, while at the same time preparing highly qualified personnel. I believe that the opportunities offered by the Ministry and the Innovation Agency for internships in organisations such as the European Space Agency will not only help talented young people but will also contribute to strengthening Lithuania’s scientific potential in the long run,” said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

The internship organised by the Innovation Agency's Space Hub LT Group will take place at the ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The intern will receive funding of EUR 12 000.

The internship will be offered in a choice of three areas. One is the internship for sensor engineers, which allows the interns to work and develop their knowledge in the unit in charge of the overall development of the hardware related to AOCS and GNC sensors. The second is internship for socio-economic impact analysts, where the interns will be able to contribute to qualitative and quantitative evidence of the value of ESA programmes to society, and the third is internship for propulsion engineers, where participants will be able to contribute to the activities of the European Propulsion Laboratory (EPL).

“The internship at the European Space Agency should be of interest to any young person in Lithuania who is studying or has studied in STEAM fields. It will not only help to broaden the horizons, meet professionals of one’s field, but can also be a key accelerator for the personal career,” said Eglė Markevičiūtė, Vice-Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

The selection is open to Lithuanian citizens studying in Lithuanian research institutions in 1st or 2nd year Master’s degree programmes in natural sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics related to the fields of internship specified in the call for applications, or who have completed STEAM Bachelor’s or Master’s degree no later than 2 years ago.

The call for ESA internships is published on the Innovation Agency’s website at https://bit.ly/EKAstazuote. The deadline for applications is 31 July 2023.
