EIMIN: New Commercial Attaché starts work in New York
Dovilė Meliauskaitė, Lithuania's new Commercial Attaché, has started work in New York, the United States of America.
"The US is one of Lithuania's most important economic partners and we want to further expand bilateral trade and strengthen cooperation. I am confident that the new Commercial Attaché will contribute to strengthening this strategic partnership and help our business community, as one of our priorities is to strengthen dialogue with the business community and promote the development of higher value-added products and services," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Lukas Savickas.
The new commercial attaché has extensive experience in priority areas for the Lithuanian economy, ranging from high-tech and fintech to renewable energy and the green economy. D. Meliauskaitė has also founded and managed a technology start-up and worked for organisations such as Nasdaq, Invest Lithuania and Kurk Lietuvai.
"My experience in both the private and public sectors, close cooperation with other commercial attachés, and living in the US and other countries give me a strong foundation to represent Lithuania in New York. I am determined to work actively to attract investment to Lithuania and to strengthen the export of Lithuanian products and services to the US," says D. Meliauskaitė.
D. Meliauskaitė holds a degree in biomedical sciences from University College London and a master's degree in sociology from Maastricht University. She is also a fellow of the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation (BAFF) and has completed an internship in Silicon Valley, San Francisco.
The US remains one of Lithuania's most important trading partners and a leading source of direct investment. In 2023, Lithuania's exports to the US amounted to EUR 1.88 bn and imports to EUR 2.87 bn. In the first three quarters of 2024, the turnover of goods between the two countries amounted to EUR 3.86 billion, an increase of around 6% compared to the same period in 2023. The US is also a priority market for Lithuania in terms of exports, innovation, investment attraction and tourism.
