EIMIN: New Lithuanian Commercial Attaché to Strengthen Business Partnerships in Japan
The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation (EIMIN) has appointed Faustas Tolkušinas as the new Lithuanian Commercial Attaché in Japan.
'Japan is one of the most advanced economies in the world, so its market offers exceptional opportunities to expand our country's exports in high-value sectors. Closer cooperation with Japan also paves the way for long-term investments in our country. Therefore, we have set the new commercial attaché the goal of strengthening the business partnership between Lithuania and Japan, and helping Lithuanian companies find new opportunities," says the Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Edvinas Grikšas.
F. Tolkušinas, the newly appointed commercial attaché to Japan, worked at Invest Lithuania, where he was responsible for the industrial production and defence industry sectors, as well as attracting new investors to Lithuania. He has work experience in the private sector and holds a Master's degree in Management and Business Administration from the University of Cologne in Germany.
'Lithuania and Japan are linked by innovation, diligence and respect for professionalism, so the greatest potential for cooperation lies in lasers, photonics, high-tech manufacturing, life sciences and financial technologies. The defence industry is a new but rapidly growing area in which Lithuania also has something to offer potential partners in Japan. I am ready to bring the two countries closer together in the areas of business, investment and knowledge exchange,' says the new commercial attaché, F. Tolkušinas.
According to data from the State Data Agency, the value of goods traded between Lithuania and Japan reached €123.8 million between January and September this year. Exports to Japan totalled €71.3 million (of which €62.1 million were goods of Lithuanian origin), while imports amounted to €52.5 million.
Japan is a priority market for Lithuania in terms of attracting investment. Since 2014, Japanese investors have implemented five foreign direct investment projects in Lithuania, creating nearly 530 jobs and generating a total value of almost €136 million.
