EIMIN to finance road construction in Marijampolė, Alytus and Kaunas districts

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation is continuing to invest in improving the country's regional infrastructure by allocating €5 million to three Lithuanian municipalities, selected through a tender, for the construction and management of roads leading to industrial zones and free economic zones (FEZ).

"It is important for us to make regions ready for investment. Over the past three years, we have invested in the municipalities of Alytus city, Marijampolė and Kaunas district, Kėdainiai, Klaipėda and Šiauliai cities, where it is planned to create around 5,600 new well-paid jobs by 2027," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.

This year, the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation received a total of 22 applications for road projects from 17 municipalities. Priority was given to projects that will help strengthen the country's regions and ensure the growth of municipal budgets by creating new jobs and attracting investment. The municipalities of Alytus, Marijampolė and Kaunas District were selected through a competitive process.

The municipality of Marijampolė, which will reconstruct road sections in the village of Nendriniškės and build a connecting road between them, was awarded €2.4 million. Kaunas District Municipality, which intends to develop roads leading to the Kaunas FEZs, received EUR 2 million.

Alytus City Municipality, which intends to construct a section of Meistrų Street in Alytus Industrial Park from Verslo Street to Artojų Street, has been allocated EUR 607.1 thousand.

"For the third year in a row, the competition not only gives municipalities the opportunity to improve roads leading to free trade zones and industrial parks, but also helps attract significant investments to the country's regions," says Karolis Žemaitis, Deputy Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

Last year, €5 million was allocated to Kaunas and Kėdainiai districts and Klaipėda city municipalities.
