Latvian President visits Lithuania: Cooperation in the areas of security, defense, and innovation is being strengthened
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs is visiting Lithuania. One of the main focuses of the visit is closer cooperation between Lithuania and Latvia in the areas of security, defense, innovation, and the economy.
During the visit, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Innovation Agency and the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA). It will facilitate even closer cooperation in the areas of innovation, R&D, export promotion, and business-science partnerships.
At an official reception held at the Presidential Palace, the President of Latvia awarded Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas the Order of the Three Stars – Latvia’s highest state honor, bestowed for exceptional service to the Latvian state and society.
Later, the minister met with Latvian Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis to discuss ways to further strengthen economic cooperation between Lithuania and Latvia – ranging from joint defense and advanced technology projects to Baltic initiatives in priority markets and preparations for Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).
