Lithuanian Classification of Occupations in line with the modern labour market enters into force
The new Lithuanian Classification of Occupations enters into force on 1 July, providing information on occupational groups oriented towards the modern labour market and an updated list of occupations, supplemented by concise descriptions. This list is relevant for job classification and labour market analysis.
"The update of the list of occupations has taken into account the changes and trends in today's labour market and includes modern occupations. Now the classification will be more convenient to use in practical activities related to recruitment, talent attraction, labour market research and career guidance," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The new list reduces the number of occupations from 5,400 to 2,600, reflecting the current situation of the country's labour market. The new classification will contribute to more efficient human resources management and help to make data-driven decisions in the areas of employment, education and talent attraction.
Currently, the Lithuanian Classification of Occupations is used in many state registers and information systems. The most widely used occupational classification is the classification of jobs. The Employment Service registers job vacancies and job seekers according to the classification. The State Data Agency uses the classification to collect and publish statistical information. The Government Strategic Analysis Centre STRATA uses it to forecast and monitor the demand for skilled workers and to prepare annual analytical reviews of human capital in Lithuania.
In order to ensure the flexibility of the Classification, it is planned to allow its users - business and employers' associations, enterprises and organisations - to elaborate the occupational codes if necessary and to apply to the Ministry for the inclusion of occupations in the Classification at the 8-digit code level.
