Ministry of the Economy and Innovation announces a programme worth up to €1 million, seeking rapid technological solutions for airspace security

Following recent incidents in Lithuanian airspace, Ministry of the Economy and Innovation (EIMIN) has announced a programme worth up to €1 million to develop and implement technological solutions that can bolster national security and airspace protection.

'Today, I met with representatives of the business, defence industry and innovation ecosystem to discuss immediate implementation of solutions. We have strong laser, drone, IT and engineering sectors, so we must utilise this potential for the security of the country. I invite companies to submit specific proposals,' said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Edvinas Grikšas.

The first call for proposals under this programme will be announced within the next 24 hours. It is expected that the submitted projects will lead to the creation of working products or prototypes that can be quickly implemented.

During the first call, the best company proposals will be selected and awarded funding to create and adapt prototypes for real-world conditions.

'It is crucial to collaborate with the Ministries of National Defence and Internal Affairs to ensure that the products can be tested in real conditions in the near future,' says Paulius Petrauskas, Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

A commission will soon be set up with the relevant institutions to evaluate the proposals and select the best projects for funding.
