New Commercial Attaché of Lithuania Starts Work in Italy
In order to consistently increase economic representation of Lithuania in the world, the network of commercial attachés in Italy is being expanded. On the 2nd of January, Tuesday, the new Commercial Attaché Laura Šerėnienė took up her post in the country.
“The two countries have an intensive economic cooperation and I have no doubt that the new Commercial Attaché will continue to contribute to the exploitation of tourism, export and investment potential, as well as to the creation of more opportunities for economic growth between Lithuania and Italy,” said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.
Prior to her appointment, Ms Šerėnienė served as the Counsellor at the Embassy of Lithuania, she was in charge of economic affairs. Prior to that, she worked as a diplomat at the Embassy of Lithuania in the USA, where she was responsible for the development of economic cooperation, and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she worked in the Economic Security Policy Department for several years, she was in charge of energy, transport, and environmental issues.
“Italy is one of Lithuania’s most important strategic partners and is included in the list of priority markets for exports, innovation and tourism, so it is important to ensure further cooperation between the countries. In Italy, I will pay particular attention to strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially, in high-tech areas such as life sciences, defence and space, fintech and energy. I will also seek to intensify ties with the regions of Italy that are major economic centres and increase inbound tourism flows," said Ms Šerėnienė.
L. Šerėnienė holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in the Italian Language and Literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Master’s degree in the EU Policy and Administration from Mykolas Romeris University.
In January-October 2023, Italy ranked 9th in terms of trade turnover, 15th in terms of exports and 9th in terms of imports. During this period, trade in goods between the two countries amounted to EUR 2.2 billion.
