Lithuanian laser companies exhibit at World Laser Expo in California
For the first time in history, Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė opened the Lithuanian national pavilion at the Photonics West 2024 global laser exhibition in San Francisco, California, USA. A total of 23 companies from the country's laser sector are exhibiting at the show.
"The Lithuanian laser industry is one of the country's strongest high-tech sectors, with around 60 companies and 1,600 highly qualified professionals. About 80 per cent of the laser sector's production is exported to nearly 80 countries, so Lithuanian laser companies participating in this exhibition will have the opportunity to present themselves, expand their contacts with foreign partners and thus further increase exports," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
Photonics West is one of the world's largest exhibitions for photonics and laser technologies. It attracts companies, professionals and scientists from all over the world. This year, for the first time, Lithuania has a national booth, and the record number of Lithuanian companies participating in the exhibition demonstrates the goal of Lithuanian companies to become more and more visible both in the state of California and on the international stage in general.
"The US is a very important market for the Lithuanian laser industry. In recent years, Lithuania has exported about 16% of its laser production to the US, which amounted to more than €32.5 million in 2022. Therefore, our companies are not only looking for investments, but are already actively investing in expansion across the Atlantic, taking advantage of the huge potential of the US for Lithuanian laser and laser systems manufacturers," says Kristina Ananičienė, Executive Director of the Lithuanian Laser Association.
The Lithuanian laser industry has a solid reputation not only in business but also in academic research. Today, 95 of the world's top 100 universities use laser technologies developed and manufactured in Lithuania. Lithuanian lasers can be found at NASA, CERN and other world-class institutions.
Over the last decade, the Lithuanian laser industry has made a major push into the industrial laser market, with industrial lasers now accounting for almost half of all industry sales.
