The new Lithuanian commercial attaché in Poland, Tomas Gavėnas, begins his assignment
The Ministry of Economy and Innovation (EIMIN) has appointed Tomas Gavėnas as the new Lithuanian commercial attaché in Poland. He will assume his duties at the Lithuanian Embassy in Warsaw on September 1.
“Poland is one of Lithuania’s most important economic partners and the largest export market for goods of Lithuanian origin. Our countries are linked by intensive trade and close business and investment ties, so we have every opportunity to further strengthen this partnership. The new commercial attaché will help Lithuanian companies more actively capitalize on the opportunities offered by the Polish market and will contribute to strengthening exports, investments, and innovation,” says Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of Economy and Innovation.
The new commercial attaché, T. Gavėnas, has more than 20 years of professional experience in the public and private sectors. To date, he has worked at the Environmental Project Management Agency and the Public Investment Development Agency; he headed the consulting firm “Projektorama” for more than a decade; and he has also worked at the European Committee and the Ministries of Health and the Interior.
“I see many opportunities to expand economic ties between Lithuania and Poland. I will strive to help Lithuanian businesses find partners and better leverage the potential of one of our largest export markets. My previous experience working on investment projects, in the business sector, and on Lithuanian-Polish cooperation programs will be valuable in achieving these goals,” says T. Gavėnas, the new Lithuanian Commercial Attaché in Poland.
T. Gavėnas holds a master’s degree in international relations and political science from Vilnius University. He also completed a program in European studies at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense.
According to data from the State Data Agency, trade in goods between Lithuania and Poland reached 9.8 billion euros in 2025 – 3.6 percent more than in 2024. Lithuanian exports to Poland totaled 3.8 billion euros, of which exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to 2.5 billion euros. Imports from Poland reached 6 billion euros. In the third quarter of 2025, Polish direct investment in Lithuania totaled nearly 1.28 billion euros, while Lithuanian direct investment in Poland totaled nearly 810 million euros.
