Ukrainian children start the school year in schools rebuilt on the initiative of Lithuania

Ukrainian schoolchildren start the new school year in schools rebuilt on the initiative of Lithuania, and pre-school children in kindergartens. Recently, the reconstruction of a kindergarten in Borodianka, which is attended by about 120 children, has been completed. In addition, a project of renovation of a school in Snihurivka has already been completed, which will help around 300 schoolchildren in this Ukrainian town to return to classes. Thus, Lithuania contributes to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Ukraine, which is particularly important for children and schoolchildren.

“Lithuania supports and encourages the reconstruction of the objects of infrastructure in Ukraine, in particular, those that help children to learn. A renovated school in Borodianka and a kindergarten “Rūta’ in Irpin have already been opened. The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation promotes such projects and has provided funding to equip Ukrainian schoolchildren with computers. Thus, we hope to make the start of the school year for Ukrainian children facing the difficulties of the war easier,” said Aušrinė Armonaitė, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

The project “Power the Future: the Device Coalition for Ukraine's Children” will provide Ukrainian children with computers and software for learning, i.e. purchase and transfer of around 250 computers. The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation contributes by the amount of EUR 50,000 to this project. The total budget of the project amounts to EUR 150,000.

Another recent project was the renovation of a school in Snihurivka: a Lithuanian company donated new windows to the only school in the town. This project, the amount to be allocated for the provision of equipment for vocational education at the Snihurivka Vocational Lyceum amounts to EUR 83,000.

Other projects to upgrade Ukraine’s infrastructure to help children and schoolchildren are underway. For example, the reconstruction of a kindergarten in Borodianka has provided this pre-school with furniture and equipment. The amount of EUR 500,000 was allocated for implementation of the project.

In addition, the project “Future School for Ukraine” aimed at preparing a technical design for the construction of schools in Ukraine is currently implemented in cooperation between Lithuanian, Ukrainian and international architects. The amount of EUR 500,000 has been allocated for this purpose.

The amount of EUR 2.7 million has been allocated for the construction of a modular school-community centre with a shelter in the municipality of Shevchenkivskyi. It is planned is to build a new school on the site of the demolished school, which would function both as an educational institution and a community centre.

Other projects to rebuild schools and kindergartens have already been implemented in Ukraine: the reconstructed kindergarten “Rūta” in Irpin, with 450 children and about 60 employees, was opened last year. The amount of EUR 4.6 million was allocated for the project.

In March this year, a school in Borodianka was opened and renovated: the school building with a capacity of 700 schoolchildren was reconstructed. The budget of the project amounts almost to EUR 8 million. In addition, an anti-radiation shelter was opened in June this year in the kindergarten in Irpin, a budget of EUR 500,000 was allocated for its equipment.

Lithuania finances reconstruction projects in Ukraine through the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund. These projects are implemented by the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA).
