1 billion for the Lithuanian economy: €8 million to strengthen the security of public electronic services
The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation announces an additional call for proposals to strengthen the security of public services provided by Lithuanian institutions through the development of innovative digital solutions and tools. It earmarks €8 million for the implementation of electronic identification tools.
"Lithuania's progress in digital public services is almost double the European Union average. As one of the leading countries, we need to ensure the security, quality and user-friendliness of these services. Therefore, with the funds from this additional call, we will strengthen the digital state and promote the deployment of innovative, reliable and secure electronic identification technologies," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The scheme will provide up to €4 million for projects in the Capital Region and up to €4 million in Central and Western Lithuania. The maximum amount of funding per project is €1.5 million.
Potential applicants are managers and administrators of a state information system or state register, and project partners are public legal entities.
"Through this investment, we want to encourage the introduction of electronic identification measures, such as the use of voice or image, etc. These innovative solutions could provide more secure identification and facilitate the use of public services," says Iveta Paludnevičiūtė, Chancellor of the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation.
Applications can be submitted to the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) until 29 February 2024.
The full terms and conditions of the call are available on the European Union Investment website.
Electronic identification is the process of using electronic personal identity data to identify a specific natural or legal person. Personal identity data includes biometric data (e.g. fingerprint, iris, voice).
In order to strengthen the Lithuanian economy, the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation will announce a series of tenders totalling almost €1 billion by the end of 2023. Around €365 million is earmarked for business, innovation and investment, €320 million for digitalisation of the state and business, and €268 million for a greener economy.
The measure "Promoting the use of electronic identification tools" will be implemented under the Investment Programme for European Union Funds for the period 2021-2027.
