A. Armonaitė: €2.3 million incentives to attract talent to Lithuania
The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation has offered financial incentives worth €2.3 million to highly skilled foreigners and employers over almost three years to ensure the supply of talent for investors. Incoming engineers, biotechnologists, IT specialists and other foreign talent in high value-added sectors and their host companies can apply for financial benefits until May 2025.
"This measure is an important part of Lithuania's value proposition to attract high value-added professionals from abroad and foreign investors. Last year we approved 53 foreign investment projects, so I have no doubt that financial incentives for Lithuanian and other foreign talent will help ensure that there is no shortage of the right professionals to successfully implement projects and increase Lithuania's competitiveness," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The amount of the benefit in 2024 will be €3,788 for individuals and up to €6,653 for employers. To qualify for the benefit, the employer must have an open-ended employment contract with the newcomer and the newcomer's occupation must be on the list of high value-added occupations for which there is a shortage of workers in Lithuania. This EIMIN measure is administered by the Employment Service. You can read more about the other conditions here.
"79% of foreign investors who have chosen Lithuania say that the supply of talent is an essential condition for coming to the country. And this initiative contributes to ensuring the supply of niche professionals in Lithuania. Talent development, attraction and retention policies are key to ensuring international competitiveness," says Neringa Morozaitė-Rasmussen, the Vice-Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
According to EIMIN's list of high value-added occupations, the highest number of benefits are for computer systems analysts, software engineers, computer systems engineers, programmers, software testers, technical managers and production engineers.
Recruitment managers of investors point out that this measure helps to attract highly qualified professionals from abroad and makes Lithuania more attractive internationally.
