A. Armonaitė and technology companies EPAM Systems and IBM discuss development of ICT sector in Lithuania
During her visit to the US, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė met with technology companies EPAM Systems and IBM and discussed the companies' further plans for Lithuania.
"Strengthening the ICT sector is one of our priorities. The development of large technology companies in the country would contribute to the growth of the ICT sector and the innovation ecosystem as a whole, as well as increase Lithuania's global competitiveness," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation A.Armonaitė.
A. Armonaitė and Arkady Dobkin, CEO of EPAM Systems, discussed how the company's global expertise and proficiency in digital engineering, integrated consulting, cloud services, and AI-enabled transformation could contribute to the growth and development of the ICT sector in the region. The discussion also delved in the company's activities and future plans in Lithuania.
EPAM Systems, a leading provider of digital platform engineering and product development services, set up an office in Vilnius a few years ago and rapidly expanded, opening a branch in Kaunas in 2022. The Engineering and Delivery Hub in Lithuania supports business and technology transformations for the company’s Global 1000 clients worldwide, utilizing cutting-edge technologies.
At the meeting with IBM representatives, the Minister A. Armonaitė presented Lithuania's initiatives to strengthen the technology sector and grow competencies in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other ICT areas. The Minister emphasised that a well-developed and innovation-friendly infrastructure and a large supply of highly qualified specialists are some of the advantages why technology companies should expand in Lithuania.
This year, an innovation centre "InnoHub Lithuania" was opened in Silicon Valley, which will help Lithuanian and US technology companies to build relationships and cooperate in the development of innovative products. The US is one of Lithuania's most important trading partners. The trade between the two countries amounted to €4.76 billion in 2023. US investments in Lithuania amount to €390.8 million.
