EIMIN is inviting Lithuanian businesses to join the Baltic AI gigafactory, a project offering the opportunity to contribute to the largest AI initiative in the region

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation (EIMIN) is inviting Lithuanian companies, research institutions and public sector organisations to join the Baltic Artificial Intelligence (AI) Gigafactory Consortium. This international project aims to create advanced AI infrastructure in the Baltic region.

A collaboration between Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and Estonia, the project intends to develop robust data processing and learning infrastructure for large language models and AI systems that will support the public sector, scientific research, businesses, and start-ups.

"By joining this consortium, Lithuanian businesses and organisations will be able to develop and offer artificial intelligence solutions, contribute to the development of the AI 'gigafactory' infrastructure, and become part of the future European AI ecosystem. Such partnerships open the door to large-scale projects, new markets, and long-term cooperation with international technology and science leaders," says Paulius Petrauskas, Advisor to the Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

In June 2025, an expression of interest was submitted to the European Commission, marking the first step towards implementing the project. According to the Baltic States' and Poland's proposal, the centre of the higher-value, larger-scale 'giga factory' would be located primarily in two locations in Poland to ensure efficiency, sustainability and low data transmission delays. Several specific locations are currently being considered to ensure sufficient infrastructure, access to green energy and efficient cooling systems.

The total budget for the AI gigafactory project is expected to be around €3 billion, most of which will be invested in computing infrastructure. As 65% of the funds are expected to come from private investment, the project's success hinges on the active involvement of the business and technology communities.

The consortium is currently being formed. Technology providers, cloud and computing infrastructure service providers, research institutes, universities, start-ups, investors, and public sector institutions interested in developing European artificial intelligence capabilities are invited to join.

Applications to join the consortium are open from 28 July to 10 August. Interested organisations are encouraged to fill out the registration form.

An information meeting will be held on 1 August to present the project and opportunities for participation – business representatives are invited to register in advance.
