EIMIN: New industrial park to be created in Utena, creating more than 300 jobs

The Government has approved the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation's proposal to create an industrial park in Utena, granting the project the status of project of national importance due to its importance for the region.

"At present, the Utena region does not have an area dedicated to the development of manufacturing and services, which makes it impossible to maximise its potential and attract investment. The project is expected to create around 310 new jobs and attract €53.2 million in investment. This will increase the attractiveness of the region," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

The 20.47 hectare Utena Industrial Park will be built on state land owned by the municipality. The project will intensify support for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and adapt the existing infrastructure to the needs of foreign and local investors.

"The development of the area will create opportunities to attract new domestic and foreign investors to the region, to promote the establishment and development of industrial enterprises in the Utena region. It will also be an opportunity for high-tech manufacturing and service companies to locate in the area," said Karolis Žemaitis, Deputy Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

The necessary infrastructure for the Utena Industrial Park area will be developed with funds from the city budget, the state budget and support from the European Union.

"Thanks to the joint efforts of the municipality and the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation, we have finally been able to move forward with this strategic issue for the Utena region. An industrial park could have been built in Utena a long time ago, but various circumstances prevented it. The establishment of an industrial park does not in itself involve investment, so there is a lot of preparatory work to be done. We will have to carry out various technical procedures and select an operator through a public tender to manage the new industrial park. We will have to use municipal, state and EU funds to clean up the area and make it suitable for investors. The 20.47 hectares of Utena will then become attractive for those who want to build new factories, which will create new jobs for the people of Utena," says the Mayor of Utena District Municipality, Marijus Kaukėnas.

It is estimated that the creation of new jobs in the industrial park will generate an additional €16.3 million in income tax and €17.3 million in state social security contributions for the state budget by 2039.

The project will be launched once the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation has signed an agreement with the Municipality of the Utena district on the development plans for the industrial park.
