€1 billion for the Lithuanian economy: €8 million for the security of public services
The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation will allocate €8 million to the deployment of electronic identification tools to strengthen the security of services provided by Lithuanian state and municipal authorities.
“According to the European Commission, Lithuania’s progress rate in digital public services is almost twice the European Union average. With this call, we will pave the way for Lithuania’s further progress by creating a digital state and enabling the deployment of innovative, reliable and secure technologies,” said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The measure will provide up to €4 million for projects in the Capital Region and up to €4 million in Central and Western Lithuania.
Potential applicants for this measure are managers and administrators of a public information system or a public register, and project partners are public legal entities.
“Our goal is to ensure that both Lithuanian businesses and citizens can safely and conveniently use the digital services provided by public authorities, so we will use our investments to promote the deployment of electronic identification tools. We hope that innovative solutions, which are not yet used or widespread on the market, will be offered to ensure secure identification and facilitate the use of public services,” says Iveta Paludnevičiūtė, Chancellor of the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation.
The maximum amount of funding that can be awarded to a project is €1.5 million, and the minimum is €500,000.
Applications can be submitted to the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) until 31 August this year. The full terms and conditions of the call can be found on the European Union Investment webpage.
Electronic identification is the process of using electronic personal identification data to identify a specific natural or legal person. Personal identity data includes biometric data (e.g. fingerprint, iris, voice).
To strengthen the Lithuanian economy, the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation will launch a series of calls for proposals totalling almost €1 billion by the end of 2023. Around €365 million is earmarked for business, innovation and investment, €320 million for digitalisation of the state and business, and €268 million for a greener economy.
The measure “Promoting the use of electronic identification tools in the Capital Region and Central and Western Lithuania” is being implemented under the Programme for the European Union (EU) Funds’ Investments 2021-2027.
