NATO Declarations of Assurance will be easier to obtain

The Seimas has approved a draft law submitted by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation on the framework for issuing Declarations of Assurance to legal entities wishing to participate in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) tenders. The draft law aims to clearly and unambiguously clarify the criteria for the issuance of Declarations of Assurance and to introduce binding provisions on the protection of personal data.

"The country's defence industry is growing, with an increasing number of companies active in defence and security or developing dual-use products. It is therefore important that the grounds for issuing Declarations of Assurance are clearly defined and free of ambiguity, thus ensuring that as many of our country's security-conscious companies as possible are able to participate in NATO tenders," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.

The Declaration of Assurance confirms the financial, technical, professional and security soundness of a legal entity to participate in NATO tenders. These declarations can only be issued to legal entities that meet strict reliability criteria, including an impeccable reputation, transparent operations and loyalty to the Republic of Lithuania.

The implementation of the provisions of the draft law is expected to have a positive impact on defence companies and their development, as state and municipal authorities and bodies will no longer have doubts about the veracity of the data and information provided, and the reliability declarations will therefore be issued within the set deadlines.
