Requirements for the training of veterinarians are being updated

The government has approved the amendments proposed by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation (EIMIN), which will bring the requirements for the training of veterinarians in Lithuania into line with European Union (EU) standards, taking into account advances in science and technology. This will ensure that qualifications obtained in Lithuania are automatically recognized in other EU countries.

“We aim to ensure that professionals trained in Lithuania meet the highest European standards. These changes will simplify qualification recognition procedures and provide veterinarians with more opportunities for professional growth and international cooperation,” says Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of Economy and Innovation.

As requirements change, significant attention is being paid not only to professional knowledge but also to soft skills such as management, collaboration, communication, and the economics of animal health, as well as information and digital technologies. Veterinary study programs are being updated accordingly.

These amendments transpose the provisions of the EU directive, which emphasize the need to modernize the training of veterinarians in line with advances in science and technology.

The draft law still needs to be approved by the Seimas; it will be considered during the fall session.
