Russian and Belarusian companies can be excluded from public procurement tenders

On Wednesday, the Government approved urgent proposals worked out by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation stating that companies from countries hostile to our country may be excluded from public procurement tenders organised in Lithuania; also, contracts already concluded with such companies may be terminated.

It is proposed that in cases of mobilisation, war or a state of emergency situation, also in other cases specified by the Government, the national contracting authorities could reject tenders from suppliers which in diverse forms are related to countries hostile to Lithuania or which offer goods produced in those countries. In addition, there would be a possibility to terminate contracts already signed.

‘This way, we seek to strengthen the interests of Lithuania’s national security and to stop any possible financing of hostile states and their businesses. We propose the law to be considered by the Seimas as a matter of urgency,’ said Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.

The list of States or territories that may be subject to such sanctions will be approved by the Government.
