The Seimas approved exclusion of companies from hostile states from public procurement tenders
Today, the Seimas approved the proposals of the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation to allow the removal of companies from countries hostile to Lithuania from public procurement tenders in Lithuania; also, to terminate contracts that have already been concluded with such companies. The list of such companies will be approved by the Government or the termination of contracts already concluded with them from public procurement tenders published in Lithuania.
‘This is a very important step towards ensuring that Lithuanian procurers have a maximum discretion to terminate contracts or reject bids in relation to countries like Russia or Belarus. Therefore, in the near future, we will provide the Government with a list of hostile states to which those provisions may apply. This is one way to stop any forms of funding for aggressive countries,’ says Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.
Amendments to the procurement laws adopted by the Seimas provide that in cases of mobilisation, war, a state of emergency and other similar cases established by the Government, the national contracting authorities will be able to reject tenders from suppliers which, in various forms, are related to countries hostile to Lithuania or offer goods produced in those countries. Moreover, it is possible to terminate contracts already signed.
