The Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė met with Ukrainian drone manufacturers in Kyiv and discussed opportunities for cooperation with Lithuanian drone manufacturers and bilateral development of advanced defence technologies.
"The war in Ukraine has shown the great impact of advanced technologies. Drones, for example, have significantly changed the course of the war. We will continue to support Ukraine by providing advanced weapon systems. We would also like to cooperate with innovative Ukrainian companies in the development of defence technologies," said the Minister of the Economy and Innovation A. Armonaitė.
The Minister introduced the Ukrainian companies to Lithuania's growing defence industry. Lithuania develops advanced defence solutions ranging from laser technologies to electronic warfare. Technologies developed in Lithuania are successfully used on the battlefield in Ukraine and exported to other NATO countries.
The Minister also outlined the favourable conditions for partner countries, including Ukraine, to establish defence companies in Lithuania.
"Ukrainian manufacturers are also interested in the possibility of developing part of their activities from Lithuania, as they would be able to safely manufacture their products here and export them to NATO countries," the Minister said.
During the meetings, opportunities for Lithuanian and Ukrainian companies to jointly develop advanced defence technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles, anti-drone systems, etc. were discussed. Representatives of Ukrainian companies have already visited Lithuania this year in search of partners for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles.
Ukraine currently has dozens of companies producing drones: reusable and single-use explosive-carrying aircraft, maritime drones, demining and mine-clearing drones, reconnaissance and other drones.
"The Ukrainians are inspiring in both their courage and their ingenuity. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, innovative Ukrainian companies have begun to develop advanced defence solutions. Today, the weapons and technologies being developed in Ukraine could also contribute to strengthening our country's armed forces," said A. Armonaitė.
