Minister E. Grikšas Outlined What He Expects from “Toksika”

Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of Economy and Innovation, met with Arūnas Dirvinskas, the head of “Toksika”, to discuss the expectations for the company, as outlined in the letter of expectations issued by the ministry. Over the next four years, the main focus will be on the safe management of hazardous waste, infrastructure modernization, operational efficiency, and the implementation of innovations.

“The management of hazardous waste is directly linked to environmental protection, national security, and the smooth operation of industry. Therefore, we expect concrete results from the company’s management and board – economically sound investments, the implementation of advanced technologies, more efficient use of available resources, and the development of new services. A state-owned enterprise must operate efficiently and contribute to creating long-term value for the state,” says E. Grikšas, Minister of Economy and Innovation.

One of the Ministry’s most important expectations is to ensure the reliable operation and expansion of the hazardous waste management infrastructure. The company must maintain sufficient national capacity for the storage and management of hazardous waste, strengthen its technological expertise, and enhance its ability to respond to emergencies and the changing needs of the government and industry.

“Toksika” aims to make more efficient use of its existing infrastructure and seek new business opportunities. Having taken over the infrastructure and operations for the management of soil and wastewater contaminated with petroleum products, the company must optimize processes, leverage shared resources, and offer new, comprehensive, and competitive services to the market. There are also plans to evaluate opportunities for expansion into other areas of waste management and environmental remediation.

The company must also increase operational efficiency by implementing advanced technologies, digitizing and automating processes, eliminating redundant administrative procedures, and, where appropriate, utilizing artificial intelligence solutions.

“Toksika” is encouraged to collaborate with Lithuanian and foreign research institutions, seek new methods of waste recycling, and reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

UAB “Toksika”, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, is engaged in the collection, transportation, temporary storage, treatment, incineration, and disposal of hazardous waste at a hazardous waste landfill, as well as the treatment of waste contaminated with petroleum products. The company operates the only hazardous waste incineration plant in Lithuania and contributes to the achievement of national environmental protection goals.
