Light Conversion to expand its laser manufacturing and research center in Vilnius: the €47 million investment has been granted large-scale project status

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation has granted the status of a large-scale investment project to the laser manufacturer UAB Light Conversion. As part of the €47.3 million project, the company will build a 13,000-square-meter manufacturing and research center in Vilnius, which will allow it to nearly triple its production capacity – from 1,000 to 2,700 laser systems per year.

The new building will feature modern and clean premises, laboratories for the assembly and testing of optical systems, robotic production lines for mechanical parts, and an automated warehousing system. The 2028–2031 project will create 200 new jobs for manufacturing specialists and technicians, engineers, researchers, and administrative staff.

“Lithuania can be proud of its strong laser industry – our companies develop and manufacture top-tier products that are purchased by scientific and business organizations around the world. The investment in Light Conversion demonstrates that Lithuania’s laser sector is not only maintaining but also consistently strengthening its position in the global market. Furthermore, such projects are particularly important for our country, as they will create high-value-added jobs,” says Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas.

Light Conversion is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of femtosecond (ultra-short pulse) laser systems. The company currently employs more than 700 people, 100 of whom work in the research and development department, and more than 50 employees hold PhDs. The company demonstrates steady growth – both revenue and profit are growing by an average of 20% per year. 99% of Light Conversion’s production is exported.

The project, named “ViPalace” (Vilnius World Laser Center), will be implemented in Vilnius at Keramikų g. 2B, where “Light Conversion” is currently located. The company’s infrastructure at this site has already been expanded three times: in 2014, 2018, and 2022. This location ensures the effective integration of research and manufacturing activities and attracts graduates in physics and engineering from nearby Vilnius University and VILNIUS TECH. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2034.

“The laser industry is one of the most striking examples of Lithuania’s success in high technology. The investment in Light Conversion shows that the sector is growing and has ambitions to continue growing – this is important for the country’s entire deep tech ecosystem,” says Elijus Čivilis, head of the investment promotion agency Invest Lithuania.

Since 2025, Invest Lithuania has been advising Lithuanian businesses seeking or having obtained major project status. During this period, the agency has advised more than 80 Lithuanian-owned companies. You can contact Invest Lithuania for consultations on submitting large-scale project applications, project implementation, and taking advantage of special investment and business conditions for large-scale projects.

Projects in the manufacturing sector or in the provision of data processing and web server services may qualify for large-scale project status if their investment in fixed assets is at least €20 million (€30 million for investments in Vilnius) and they create at least 20 new jobs. Such projects are eligible for a 0% corporate income tax rate for a period of up to 20 years, expedited land-use planning and building permit issuance, a simplified immigration process for foreign specialists, and accelerated infrastructure development; a coordinator from Invest Lithuania is also assigned to ensure that the project receives all the special investment and business conditions provided for.
